Switching to Electronic Cigarettes the Best Start to Quit Smoking

Every year, 5 million people worldwide die because of health complications associated with tobacco use, deaths that could have otherwise been prevented. Smoking, however, is undoubtedly a hard habit to break easily, and smokers are being enticed into using devices like electronic cigarettes as a way to aid them in ditching cigarettes.

If you’re looking for ways to quit smoking for good, you may want to give electronic cigarettes a try. Numerous studies have shown that this device could actually be more effective in helping smokers quit their harmful habit than using nicotine patches, gum, or even willpower.

One in Ten E-Cig Smokers Successful

In trial surveys published in the Cochrane Library, researchers have found that almost one in ten smokers using e-cigarettes were able to quit smoking completely a year after, while a third of them were able to cut down their nicotine consumption. The study, conducted in Britain, prompted Professor Peter Hajek from the UK Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies to say that e-cigarettes are a must-try for smokers looking for ways to kick the habit.

Another study conducted in the U.K. found further proof that e-cigarettes can be linked to smoking cessation. The study, published in the journal Addiction, found that smokers turning to e-cigarettes are 60 percent more likely to succeed in quitting the habit compared to those using anti-smoking nicotine patches and gums. What makes this study about e-cigarettes different from others is that it specifically studied smokers who switched to this device to curb their smoking habits; other studies merely looked into smokers in general.

Vaping Everyday a Must

Scientists know the struggle smokers go through in trying to quit completely, even those who may be using e-cigarettes as an alternative. For a better chance of success in kicking the habit for good, researchers from the King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience suggest using e-cigarettes more frequently and every day, instead of occasionally. Moreover, they suggest stopping cigarette smoking as quickly as possible to be more successful in quitting altogether.

One study, also published in the journal Addiction, saw that over 65 percent of those vaping on a regular basis attempted to give up smoking within a year, and by the end of the year, 14 percent of them were able to cut their tobacco consumption by at least half. Further studies about the link between e-cigarettes and smoking cessation are limited, yet these studies are evidence enough that turning to an e-cig, bought from stores like Carolina Vapor Mill, can be helpful for smoking cessation.
